C&R Designer Wins National Award
Jo KoenigCabana Design Brings Katya Grisaffi National Recognition
Every year, the Interior Design Society (IDS) holds the esteemed National Designer of the Year awards to recognize exceptional design and innovation. In January, C&R Remodeling Designer, Katya Grisaffi, was awarded first place in the 2014 Specialty Areas–Outdoor Rooms category. The competition was stiff, with the largest number of entrants ever participating from across the country.
The West Side Cabana
C&R Remodeling constructed Katya’s West Side Cabana design this past winter. The new Cabana and gardens transformed this yard from dismal and drab to a healing oasis. It is now an inviting place to gather and entertain. The grounds are a gardener’s delight.
According to Katya, her overall design concept was a metaphor for nature: flow and discovery.
The Cabana was purpose-built and tailored for the homeowner, with an on-site exercise pool, spa tub and heated flagstone floors. Use of natural, low-maintenance sustainable materials are prevalent throughout, and features include an open hearth area with fireplace, an interior living space with kitchenette, bathroom suite, and an exterior shower.
The Cabana is a multi-functional place to embrace entertaining and hold family gatherings that takes advantage of the beautiful spring and summer weather, and provides a protected area in the cold and wet winter months.
The Cabana is also a self-contained Guest House with all the amenities for comfort and privacy. A separate entrance to the property with illuminated pathways provides an inviting home away from home, while comfortably distancing guests from the main house.
