Top designers live by two principals: Form Follows Function and Purpose Dictates Choice. Therefore, the first question you want to answer is, “How do you want to live in your space?”Realistically evaluate your living areas and identify the lifestyle challenges they present. For instance, do you feel cut off from your family or guests when in your kitchen? Does the drabness of your bathroom depress you every morning? Does that extra bedroom absolutely need to be a bedroom, or could the space be put to better use?
Another important design principal: Color Is Everything. The right use of color can transform any space. And when the right colors are combined with the best use of space, your home will feel the way you always dreamed it could.

Our design team includes experts in assessment, evaluation, drafting, computerized 3-D visualization, product selection, and interior design. As our client, you will have the option to access these services on a variety of levels, depending on your needs.

What are principals of good design?

One of the most basic and important design principals: Form Always Follows Function. Therefore, the first question you want to ask yourself is, “How do I want to live in my space?” Realistically evaluate your living areas and identify the lifestyle challenges they present. For instance, do you feel cut off from your family or guests when in your kitchen? Does the drabness of your bathroom depress you every morning? Does that extra bedroom need to be a bedroom, or could your put that space to better use?
Another key design principal: Color Is Everything. The appropriate use of color can transform any space. And when the right colors are combined with the best use of space, your home will feel the way you always dreamed it could.

What does good design look like?

A better question might be “What does good design feel like?” because the best design is often something you don’t even notice. However, it is always something that feels right. Have you every walked into a room and felt instantly comfortable, although you didn’t know why? Most likely it was good design that brought you that pleasant feeling. Conversely, have you ever noticed remodeled homes where the scale and architecture of an addition struck you as “remodeled?” Again, the goal is to be pleasing without being obvious.

What role does 3-D technology play in good design?

Architecture visualization is the most flexible and popular design tool in remodeling. C&R has the ability to show 3-D architectural views of redesigned rooms and allow clients to essentially walk around in them. It is a powerful visual tool and extremely helpful to clients as they seek to make confident design decisions. It is true that others offer ‘computer design’, but it takes experience, skill, commitment, and a personal connection with the client to truly make the design all it can be.

How does professional design benefit a homeowner?

A design professional can perform an objective evaluation of existing space, including structural elements, to provide feasible remodeling options. Without years of remodeling experience and training, it can be difficult for a homeowner to envision what dramatic results can be obtained. It is the job—and joy—of the consultant and designer to reveal these options to the client.

How do budget constraints affect design?

A client’s budget should always be carefully considered as the design process moves forward. Otherwise, great disappointment can occur after lofty dreams are encouraged and then dashed by an unmanageable price tag. C&R Remodeling uses a budget-sensitive process, assisting clients to get the most for their dollar while staying within a pre-determined budget range.

How long does it take to design a project?

Every single remodeling project is unique, so design time frames are as varied as the projects and homeowners themselves. But we always give our clients the same advice: do not rush the process. Time spent in making decisions and planning at the front end of the project will reap enormous benefits throughout all the other phases.
