The owners of this south Salem home were hoping to remodel their cramped and dated kitchen. They weren’t sure what their options were, and wondered if they could get the amenities they wanted while staying within their budget. Their wish list included state of the art appliances, a walk-in pantry, and beautiful finishes.

C&R Remodeling designed an addition that would provide plenty of extra room for their new kitchen. C&R also did careful budget management in tandem with the design so the homeowners could get what they wanted for a comfortable investment. (Without this important aspect of budgeting along with design, sometimes the design can outstrip a client’s investment target.)

Part of the design process included 3-D animation of the proposed new spaces. This allowed the homeowners to virtually “walk around” the new kitchen to see how it would feel and function.

When designing an addition, the goal is to make sure the new construction blends seamlessly with the existing house. When this addition was completed, it looked like it was a part of the original house.  The kitchen and main living spaces are upstairs, so the area on the ground floor provided an extra bonus space for a man cave.

During the deconstruction phase, even the homeowner’s son enjoyed getting in on the action.

Remodeling in progress: making order out of chaos.

The completed kitchen features Cherry stained cabinets on the perimeter of the kitchen and a dark stained  cherry island.  The contrast is striking, especially  when combined with the contrasting countertops.  The original kitchen had  one skylight; the new kitchen now has three and the area is filled with natural light.

The microwave opens like a drawer and is  conveniently located in the central island.

A commercial grade gas cooking range is complemented by a custom tile mosaic backsplash and convenient potfiller.
