Making a House Feel Like Home
Jo KoenigWhat are the chances that the new house you buy will suit you perfectly? In truth, the odds are pretty low. This couple bought a home that fulfilled nearly every one of their wishes—except for the kitchen and great room. The finishes were not their style, and the floor plan needed some re-working. But they went ahead and bought the almost-perfect house in the absolute-perfect location and began working with C&R to plan their remodel.
The primary obstacles to overcome were the layout and the finishes—including the outdated stained cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and tile flooring. C&R removed the wall between the great room and the kitchen, then rearranged the appliances and cabinetry layout in a more efficient plan.
The walls, cabinets, and woodwork were painted a new color, bringing fresh new life throughout the space.
Project details:
- Deconstruct existing countertops, backsplash, and tile flooring
- Remove the wall between kitchen and living room
- New electrical plan
- New appliances including pantry wine refrigerators
- New under mount sink, air switch trim and faucet
- New Quartzite countertops in Monte Blanc
- New full height tile backsplash to ceiling at cooktop wall
- New cabinetry to blend with existing
- New wall cabinet above coffee bar location
- New pantry, refrigerator cabinet, appliance garage and corner Susan
- New peninsula cabinetry
- New crown molding
- New floating shelves at cooktop wall
- New wood floors
- New paint throughout.
Details Are Everything
One of the most striking details has to be the floating shelves. Custom brass brackets support the Black Walnut slabs creating a beautiful focal point.
We replaced the nondescript cubby countertop with a new beverage center, including two new wine refrigerators. The homeowners love having the center conveniently located between the kitchen and dining rooms.
Glowing Review
The owners are delighted with the transformation and encouraged us to share their kind words of thanks:
“Bill and I wanted to express our gratitude to everyone at Team C&R for creating the kitchen we were dreaming of…and then some. We are still overwhelmed by the beautiful space and the transformation that occurred in a few short months. Our home finally feels like “us”.
Our positive experience began with Andrew, visiting the home to discuss the possibility of removing a wall to open up our kitchen and view. He was professional, likable, positive, and had great follow through. The fact that he was willing to bring in an engineer to assess the load bearing wall really won us over. We interviewed three different contractors, and chose C&R based on Houzz reviews and the feeling of integrity we had with each communication.
Beth was so patient in the beginning stages of design and continued to create alternate design ideas until we found the perfect kitchen plan for both our taste and budget. She was instrumental in helping us create a cohesive look to our kitchen, making sure that it was unique, but complementary, to the rest of our home. Her collaborative way of working made it so fun to be a part of the remodel! We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the project, from planning thru construction, and will miss the excitement it brought us.
We are thankful that we had Mark and Jason on our project…and they were terrific! The respect they had for us, our home, and all the subcontractors they worked with was so appreciated. They take such pride in their workmanship…which is excellent. It was easy for us to communicate with Mark if there were any questions, and we really felt like we were in good hands when he was here. No detail was ever overlooked. He inspects the subcontractor’s work, and promptly has it fixed if it’s not up to his or our expectations.
Linda…the magician. She brings everything together and creates a home that you never want to leave. She intuitively zeros in on your taste and makes it all come to life. The end result is stunning!
We loved the experience so much that we are dreaming of our next project!
With many thanks, Bill and Carol”
