Expanding Horizons: A Primary Suite Retreat in Salem

Creating a home that grows with you is at the heart of what we do at C&R Design Remodel. For one local family, that meant transforming their residence with a Full Reconstruction addition to create a true sanctuary on the main level. This five month journey took them from a standard bedroom to an expansive, multi functional retreat designed for lounging, exercise, and ultimate relaxation.

Designing for Lifestyle and Luxury

The goal was clear: create a dedicated primary suite that offered more than just a place to sleep. The new 38×29’6 addition seamlessly integrated several new high end zones:

A Spa Like Bath: A complete reimagining of the private bathroom space with a brand new layout.

The Primary Bedroom & Sitting Room: A spacious new sitting area featuring vaulted ceilings and cosmetic updates in the existing bedroom with all new hardwood flooring throughout.

The Workout Room: A dedicated home gym with tons of natural light and access to a new exterior courtyard.

High End Components & Modern Finishes

To achieve the retreat feel the clients desired, our team curated a selection of modern, durable materials:

Custom Touches: The sitting room features a stunning gas fireplace insert flanked by wood slat wall cladding, cast stone fireplace surround with mantel, recessed area for a bench seat, alabaster pendants and as part of the addition, new Milgard windows and french doors. The french doors lead out to a thoughtful designed paver patio with railing and stairs to their existing courtyard.

Sophisticated Surfaces: The bathroom boasts walnut cabinetry by DeWils in a Sonoma Horizontal style, Coral Clay quartz countertops, a custom selection of tile to integrate a wood look feel in the shower and tub. The pebble floor in the shower reflects the outdoor aspects that you view from the tub and reflects nature. Touches of upscale lighting and modern convenience with heated towel rack and smart lighting plan.

The Ultimate Soak: A custom built TAKARA deep soaking tub with a 14 jet hydrotherapy system and chromotherapy lighting offers the deluxe spa experience. The tub is extra deep allowing one to be able to sit completely submerged in the water. Adding a wood shelf and a textural tile at the tub brings interest and a coheasive design approach to the rest of the space.

Modern Tech: We installed a Moen Smart Shower 4 outlet digital controller with Wifi technology, paired with a TOTO Nexus toilet featuring a bidet seat. The full suite is set up with remote lighting that can be controlled with color temperature, lighting patterns and voice control. Samsung Frame TVs both above the fireplace and in the exercise room blend into the space while offering the convenience of art when off.

A Foundation of Quality

The exterior was finished with Hardi Plank siding, blending traditional lap siding with modern board and batten styles to match the existing home’s character. Inside, 4″ White Oak hardwood flooring was finished in place to provide a timeless, elegant look throughout the bedroom and sitting areas.

Today, these homeowners have more than just an addition; they have a private haven that perfectly balances their goals for fitness, relaxation, and modern style.

A project of this scale requires precision. Following our all-inclusive process, we managed everything from the initial excavation and foundation pouring to the final interior paint and trim.

Comfort First: To ensure the family could breathe easy during the construction phase, we utilized dust protection systems and HEPA air filtration.

Seamless Integration: We reframed existing exterior walls to create a fluid transition from the original house to the new suite.

Light & Air: The space is flooded with natural light thanks to Milgard Tuscany Series windows and a new set of Vista Grand Masonite French doors.
